Flagstone, (Bluff Rock)
and "Stack" versus "Non-Stack" (or "Regular")
Generally, if a piece of stone is about a hand and a half-hand or less,
it is considered as "stack".(Approximate dimensions are 4" in width;
length is irrelevant.) These pieces of stone are the smaller pieces.

On the other hand, if it is larger than a hand and a half-hand,
it is considered as "regular" or "cap" rock.

The thicknesses of rock can be classified as "thin", "medium", or "thick."

Flagstone is sandstone rock, often obtained in sheets of sedimentary
layers, with many differing earth tone colors.  It is often referred to as
Bluff Rock.

Applications for flagstone often are contingent upon the thicknesses
needed for the application.  For example, the thicker flagstone is
commonly used for retaining walls.  On the other hand, the "stack"
stone is often used for dry stacking of landscape forms and stacking of
barrier walls.  The "regular" is often used for sidewalk construction.
